Are you lying in bed but your brain just won’t shut off? Try these tricks to help yourself stop overthinking at night and sleep better.
Hi. I’m Dr. Tom McDonagh, and I’m going to try to help you with this problem.
One way to try to fix this problem is to write it down. Simply writing it down helps reduce the frequency of these nighttime annoying thoughts.
Another tip to try is deep breathing. Focus on inhaling for four seconds, holding it for four seconds, and exhaling for eight seconds. This helps to slow your mind and your body.
Another tip to try is progressive muscle relaxation. So choose certain muscle groups, constrict and hold them for 30 seconds, and then release them for 30 seconds. And do this as often as needed until the thoughts go away.
Lastly, try to use a white noise machine or some other type of sound machine, blocking the thoughts we have in our brain with these sounds can create a calming atmosphere as well.
