San Francisco Therapists

Good Therapy SF is a team of therapists made up of psychologists and other mental health professionals working with people in the Bay Area and beyond, dealing mostly with anxiety, depression and relationship issues. While we are based in the San Francisco Bay Area, we are all licensed in California and other states. So we're able to help most people in California and a few other states as well.

The Good Therapy SF Approach

CBT: We use a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) approach. It is a strong evidence-based technique for helping people dealing with these types of symptoms.

Mindfulness: We also use mindfulness and their more holistic approaches as well, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).

Holistic care: We encourage clients to look at all aspects of their life, diet, exercise and relationships as well.

Testimonials

I have been seeing Dr. Tom for around 5 years now. I have had many therapists in the past that didn't work for me, we just didn't click. Dr. Tom is approachable and authentic. When we first met, I had a ton of questions about his practice and he made me feel confident and comfortable talking to him. He is easy to talk to and explains his thinking and cares more about how treatment is working for you. In practice, we do a lot of DBT work, but he modifies or tries other approaches if that isn't working. His practice is holistic and he genuinely cares about his patients.

Dr. Tom McDonagh is a wonderful doctor who I have been seeing for a few months now. I’ve seen a few doctors in the past but can say that Dr McDonagh was able to truly help me with the issues that I was struggling with. He really takes the time to talk about what is on your mind/understand what you are currently struggling with and he helps breakdown the “why” behind it. His treatment techniques are great and have helped me make an improvement. He takes the time to explain different techniques and how it works and what studies have shown to be the results. If something doesn’t seem to be working, then another approach is taken until an improvement is made. He works around what works for YOU. He is also VERY easy to talk to and is approachable which have made the sessions super helpful and beneficial no matter how hard the topic at hand may be. Whether you need a “mental check up,” or are currently struggling with an issue and not sure what to do or how to deal, he is a great Doctor to work with to help you back on a healthy direction.

Good Therapy SF is a wonderful therapy practice in San Francisco. I have referred a number of individuals to Dr. Tom McDonagh and Good Therapy SF and have only heard positive feedback on the care received. If considering a therapist in the Financial District, Good Therapy SF definitely lives up to their name.

I am writing this professional review in support of Dr. Tom McDonagh and the team at Good Therapy SF. We have collaborated in the past and continue to work together with shared patients. I find that the team at Good Therapy SF are highly professional, use empirically validated treatments, and provide wonderful support for their patients. It's a pleasure to working with them professionally, and I've heard patients say the same as well.
