How to Break the Cycle of Second-Guessing Everything

Do you second guess everything that you say or do? Here’s how to break that cycle.

Hi, I’m Dr. Tom McDonagh, a therapist at Good Therapy SF, and I’m going to help you stop second guessing yourself all the time.

Second guessing is usually driven by fear of making mistakes or wanting to avoid regrets. But constantly doubting yourself leads to more stress and less clarity. The key is to make decisions from your values, not your fear.

So what to try instead? Ask yourself what choice reflects who I want to be, not just what I’m afraid of. Then act, notice the outcome, and resist the urge to rehash every step.Remind yourself: clarity comes from doing not perfect thinking.

You don’t have to get it perfect to move forward. You just have to start trusting your own voice. If second guessing is getting in your way, therapy can help. Reach out to us here at Good Therapy SF.
