Ever feel like your brain’s stuck on repeat, playing the same worry over and over again?
Hi, I’m Dr. Tom McDonagh, a psychologist at Good Therapy SF. Thought loops are when your mind gets caught cycling through the same worry without resolution. It’s exhausting, but you can interrupt the cycle.
First, try to name the pattern, notice when you’re looping instead of problem solving.
Second, get out of your head. Use your senses or movement to ground yourself into the present.
And last, ask yourself a better question, “What do I need right now?” instead of “what if this?” or “what if that?”
So if looping thoughts are keeping you stuck, therapy can help you build tools to calm your mind and refocus your energy.
