If AI support feels good, but something’s still missing, this might explain why. Hi, I’m Dr. Tom McDonagh, a psychologist at Good Therapy SF. So AI tools can be useful for reflection and organization, but there are important limits when it comes to real mental health care. Here’s what AI can’t do and why that matters. So a few main points.
First, AI cannot form a real relationship. Second point, it can’t truly challenge you. Growth often requires gentle confrontation or discomfort, and AI is designed to avoid both.
Third, it can’t truly understand the full contexts. AI doesn’t know your history patterns, body language, or emotional nuances.
And lastly, it can’t replace accountability. Change happens through following up feedback and support things that humans provide best.
So while AI can be a helpful tool, lasting mental health growth often requires a human connection.
