Rereading that text five times or more? There’s a reason. Hi, I’m Dr. Tom McDonagh from Good Therapy SF. And let’s talk about why you’re over analyzing texts and how to stop spiraling over what they really mean.
So first, this usually is not about the message, it’s about anxiety. Your brain is scanning for signs of rejection or disapproval.
Second, ambiguous messages are a trap. So when something feels unclear, your brain tries to fill in the blanks, and that’s usually going to be a fear-based guess.
And third, look at the pattern. If you only do this with certain types of people or topics, it might be touching an old wound, like fear of abandonment or not being good enough.
So remember, therapy can help you in these moments. Feel free to reach out to Good Therapy SF for more help.
